book decoy / no.001
about

we make simple, beautiful tools that help parents be present.

the story

we started book decoy after watching a friend hand her toddler a tablet so she could answer a work message, and feeling, instead of judgment, a wave of recognition. we have done it too. we do it every day.

so we built one object. not an app. not a course. not another thing for parents to feel bad about. a hardcover book that holds your phone, so a child sees the behavior we'd all like them to inherit — even on the days we can't put the phone down.

it isn't a fix. it's a small, honest shift. we think small honest shifts are how parents survive the loud years — and how children, watching, learn what it looks like to be a person on purpose.

what we believe

  • distraction is not a failure — it's the cost of caring.
  • kids learn from posture, not paragraphs.
  • one object that does one job is worth more than ten that do many.
  • warm is a design choice. so is short.

what we are not

we are not a parenting platform. we are not a screen-time tool. we do not have an app planned, and we'll be honest with you when we do.

what comes next

this run is 500. we made them all already; they sit, individually boxed in kraft, in a small room. when they're gone, we will think carefully about a v2. if you have a thought about what it should be, say hello.
